In order to monitor the operation of a pressure medium pump for supplying a hydraulic brake system, a control piston (36), which can be displaced in the direction of the pump flow against a compression spring (42), in order thereby to operate a switch (46), is arranged between the pump outlet and a feed line leading to the brake system. The control piston (36) has a longitudinal bore (40), the outlet aperture of which is closed by a valve ball (41), on which the compression spring (42) is supported. The control piston (36) is acted upon by the pump pressure by way of an inlet bore (47) and thereby displaced into an operating position on a stop surface (38). As the pressure rises further the valve ball (41) is raised so that the pressure medium passes by way of an outlet bore (38) into the pressure line of the brake system. <IMAGE>
