PURPOSE:To obtain a fine honed silvery finish by honing a stainless material, immersing it in an aqueous nitric acid soln. contg. hydrofluoric acid, and coating the material with a transparent resin by electrodeposition. CONSTITUTION:A stainless material is honed with glass beads or the like to provide about 300-1,000 mesh surface roughness. About 2-10cc hydrofluoric acid is added to a soln. consisting of nitric acid and water in about 1:1 ratio, the resulting soln. is heated to about 50-60 deg.C, and the honed material is immersed in the heated soln. for about 1-5min. The surface of the stainless material turns somber silver or silver. The material is then coated with a transparent resin to about 1-5mum thickness by electrodeposition so as to keep the surface clean.
