<p>PURPOSE:To provide a titled melting device for radioactive metallic waste which is made small in size and simple and improves packing rate to a container by using >=3 pieces of electrodes to manufacture a casting ingot having a circular cylindrical shape, and forming a surface plate in a lifting type and a casting mold in a splittable type. CONSTITUTION:A casting mold 1 is installed in a liftable surface plate 2 in the above-described electroslag melting device. The mold 1 is formed into a cylindrical shape and is constituted bisectably in the diametral direction thereof. The surface plate 2 is for the beginning placed in the up position as shown by a virtual line in the above-mentioned device and the radioactive metallic waste to be treated is supplied into the mold 1. Electricity is then conducted to the electrodes 3 to melt the material to be treated and to form a slag layer 5 on the surface, thereby increasing gradually the level of the molten layer 6 under the slag layer. When the plate 2 is lowered according to the rise in the molten metal level, a cooled and solidified casting ingot 7 descends to maintain the specified molten metal level at all times. When the ingot 7 attains a prescribed size (a), the melting is ceased and after the layer 6 cools and solidifies, the mold 2 is bisected and the ingot 7 is taken out.</p> |
