PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which realizes higher sharpness, less energy and smaller size by improving the fixing efficiency of a toner to transfer paper and the separability of the transfer paper after fixing and making the torque of a fixing device lower. SOLUTION: The arithmetic mean roughness Ra of the surface of a heat fixing member 100 of the fixing device 8 on the contact surface side of a recording medium, the mean ruggedness height Rc, the mean spacing S of the peaks of the local areas, the volume average grain size Rt of the toner 104, and the shortest diameter Dmin of pixels have the relationships of Ra<Rc, 0.1Rt≤Rc≤Rt and S≤Dmin and the heat fixing member 100 has projections 102 on its front layer and the periphery thereof is a compressive elastic layer 103 composed of a foaming material.
