PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device which can detect the dropping of articles other than raindrops and snow, and also, can increase the control performance when various kinds of apparatus are controlled from the detected result. SOLUTION: This image processing device is equipped with a photographing section 10 which temporally serially photographs the image of the surroundings of a vehicle, a dropped article-detecting section 31 which detects a dropped article from the image photographed by the photographing section 10, and a feature amount calculating section 32 which acquires the feature amount in the image of the dropped article detected by the dropped article detecting section 31. The image processing device is also equipped with a feature amount determining section 33 which determines the feature amount in an actual space of the dropped article from the feature amount in the image of the dropped article obtained by the description amount calculating section 32, and actually measured dropping speed characteristics of rain/snow indicating a relationship between the size and the dropping speed of the dropped article in the actual space, and also being measured in advance, and an air resistance estimating section 34 which estimates the air resistance of the dropped article from the feature amount in the actual space of the dropped article determined by the feature amount determining section 33.
