A mobile terminal having an electronic compass module and a method for playing network type mobile games by using the electronic compass module are provided to easily control motion of a user-controlled character in up/down and left/right directions according to movement of a mobile terminal. A program memory unit(210) includes a compiler for performing a compiling operation to execute mobile games and a wireless Internet browser for connection to the wireless Internet. A parameter storage unit(211) stores various parameters for performing data communication. A SIM(Subscriber Information Module)(217) stores a MIN(Mobile Identification Number), an ESN(Electrical Serial Number), a personal security key and various data required for operations of a mobile terminal. A key input unit(212) includes one or more key buttons serving as a user input unit for inputting key values related to selection, execution, proceeding and stopping of a mobile game. An electronic compass module unit(214) includes a magnetic sensor for generating a sensor output signal in proportion to a size of an external earth magnetic field which changes according to movement of a mobile terminal in up/down and left/right directions, and outputs a horizontal or vertical rotation angle value. A microprocessor(220) controls to transmit the horizontal or vertical rotation angle value received from the electronic compass module unit(214) as data values for controlling motion of a user-controlled character to a specific wireless Internet game server through a wireless Internet network. An LCD display unit(213) displays one or more game screens related to the mobile game. |
