PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an emulsion composition with excellent water resistance, viscosity stability, high speed coating properties and skinning resistance. SOLUTION: Into an aqueous emulsion in which the dispersoid is (A) a (co)polymer composed of one or more members selected from ethylenically unsaturated monomers and diene monomers and the dispersing agent is (B) a modified polyvinyl alcohol containing 1-20 mole % 4>=Cα-olefin units, (C) 0.5-200 pts.wt., by solids content, based on 100 pts.wt. component (B), one or more compounds selected from alkali metal aromatic sulfonates and alkali metal aromatic sulfonate formalin condensates are incorporated.
