DEVICE AND METHOD FOR COOLING EXTRUDER CYLINDER

PURPOSE: To uniformly cool a cylinder over the whole crosssection by a method wherein low temp. air is fed into an enclosure surrounding a heating and cooling zone and is dispersed over the outer periphery of the cylinder and flows in the longitudinal direction and is exhausted. CONSTITUTION: Cooling fins 25 are arranged around a cylinder 10 for improving cooling efficiency of the system. Although the fins 25 are illustrated only on a part of the outer periphery of the cylinder 10, but the fins can be arranged on the whole outer periphery of the cylinder. Each cooling fin 25 has a general shape of a relatively narrow rectangular parallel hexahedron with a thickness of approximately several mm, a height of approximately 40-50 mm and a length of approximately two-fold. The fins 25 are made of such a material with a good heat conductivity as copper or aluminum. The fin 25 contains an opening part 25A and a wide central slot 25B and is fixed by receiving a heating sleeve or a collar.
