A method of plastics welding particularly suited to thermoplastics such as polypropylene comprises the application of direct heat to the surfaces to be welded while pressing the surfaces together under a pressure of between 1 and 10N, relieving the pressure to remove the heating device (10) and reapplying the pressure to weld the surfaces (6, 8) to be joined.
