Method for forming high-alloy steels and super alloys

To form high-alloy steels and super alloys by means of a planetary cross-rolling mill (1), use is made of a method in which the feed stock is heated to the required rolling temperature in a soaking furnace (2) before rolling. After passing through the planetary cross-rolling mill (1), the reduced stock is fed back to the soaking furnace (2) via a system of roller tables and is there heated to the rolling temperature required for further diameter reduction. The various rolling tables for transporting the rolling stock are connected to skid-type transfers, allowing the rolling stock to be circulated between the soaking furnace (2) and the planetary rolling mill (1) with little expenditure on machinery. Accurate maintenance of the correct rolling temperature is thus guaranteed. The plant is equipped with a travelling cutting device which can cut the rolled stock to the required final length without scrap. In order to free the surface of the stock from the scale which interferes with the rolling process, a descaling device is provided on the outlet side of the soaking furnace (2). <IMAGE>
