PURPOSE:To shorten the time required for the initialization of a magneto-optical disk in approximate proportion to the number of optical heads by using plural pieces of the optical heads which are determined in the initializing range. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus is constituted by having plural pieces of the optical heads 2 which are determined in the initializing range, a magnet 3, a spindle 6 which rotates the magneto-optical disk 1 and a control circuit 7 which controls plural pieces of the optical heads 4. The optical heads 2 and the magnet 3 cover the outer part of the disk 1 and the optical heads 4 and the magnet 5 over the inner part. The full surface of the disk 1 can be irradiated when about half the diameter of the respective disks 1 is irradiated. As a result, the magnetization directions over the entire surface of the disks 1 are unified in one direction and are initialized. The required time is thus shortened. |
