PURPOSE:To facilitate the setting of a recording starting position by providing a means of recording on a recording medium in the conveying direction of said recording medium being conveyed and providing a means of detecting the position of said recording medium on both sides of said recording medium in the vicinity of said recording means. CONSTITUTION:A recording medium P is fed in the arrow direction, from a paper guide 201 and through between a conveying roller 113 and an idler 213 and placed on a platen 203, and information is written on the recording medium P by means of a recording head 101. Then, the recording medium P is discharged onto the paper guide 201 via a discharge roller 115 and an idler 215. The position sensors 102, 202 for the recording medium P are provided on both sides of the recording medium P and in the vicinity of the recording head 101. Thereby, the setting of a recording starting position and the detection of the position of the recording medium P can be easily carried out, while also rapidly detecting the occurrence of jam. The unit is suited to a device having a short conveying system. |
