<p>The tapping fitting for application to a pipe (P) in order to tap a fluid conducted therethrough to an ancillary device includes a housing (2) having a rotatable blade assembly (3) threadedly received within the housing main section (20) and including a cylindrical cutting blade (32) at its inner end such that rotation of the blade assembly (3) cuts a cylindrical slug from the pipe (P) when attached thereto. The device further includes a hollow stem (4) having an inner end secured to the rotatable blade assembly (3) and an outer end for receiving a key (5) to rotate the hollow stem (4) and the blade assembly (3) from an initial retracted position to a projected position and then to a final retracted position. A seal (50) between the outer surface of the hollow stem (4) and the housing main section (20) seals the interior of the pipe (P) from the external side of the housing (2) both during and after the cutting of the cylindrical slug from the pipe (P). <IMAGE></p> |
