<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a complex porous silicon particle suitable for a negative electrode material for a lithium-ion battery, which <1> achieves high capacity and good cycling characteristics and <2> ensures a conductive path by a silicon compound inside a porous body. <P>SOLUTION: The complex porous silicon particle 1 is formed by joining silicon microparticles 3 and silicon compound particles 5. The silicon compound particles each contain a compound of silicon and at least one composite element chosen from the group consisting of As, Ba, Ca, Ce, Co, Cr, Cu, Er, Fe, Gd, Hf, Lu, Mg, Mn, Mo, Nb, Nd, Ni, Os, Pr, Pt, Pu, Re, Rh, Ru, Sc, Sm, Sr, Ta, Te, Th, Ti, Tm, U, V, W, Y, Yb and Zr.
