PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant applying unit which stably applies a lubricant and enhances use efficiency of the lubricant, a cleaning unit, an image forming apparatus and an image forming method. SOLUTION: The lubricant applying unit has the lubricant 82, an applying member 83 for applying the lubricant 82 onto an image carrier, and a positioning means 88 to adjust the position of the lubricant 82 with respect to the applying member 83.
