The unit has a hob plate including a working unit having a cooking place, where a sensor is operated by an operating person. The sensor is connected with a control unit (8) for controlling the working unit. The sensor has a variable condenser surface formed with its capacitance and arranged opposite to an electrode (4) that is mounted on the hob plate. An electrically conducting covering surface (6) is provided for covering sensor units of the operating unit. The covering surface has a closed surface in a region of contact sensors and a thickness of maximum 0.5 millimeter.
