PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a collator which does not execute collating processing for a group to which a paper feed table not loaded with paper belongs, but executes only the collating processing for the other groups when there is a paper feed table not loaded with paper. SOLUTION: This collator includes a paper feed part for transporting loaded paper sheets on the respective paper feed tables one by one, a collation transport part for transporting plural paper sheets transported from the respective paper feed tables as materials to be collated to a discharge part, the discharge part for discharging the collated materials transported from the collation transport part to a stacker part, the stacker part having a paper discharge table loaded with discharged collated material, a paper existence/absence detecting sensor S1 and a control part 68. The control part 68 divides plural paper feed tables into plural groups, and transports paper only from the paper feed tables belonging to the group detected to be loaded with paper by the paper existence/ absence detecting sensor S1, not from the paper feed table belonging to the group detected to be unloaded with paper by the paper existence/absence detecting sensor S1.
