A catheter (10) has an end section (S) of abruptly reduced outside diameter, on to which a retainer (14) is fitted before connection to an adjacent device. Pref. the retainer (14) consists of heat-shrinkable polyester material. Also claimed is a method of preparing an end of a catheter for connection to an adjacent device.
